Student Council provides opportunities to develop leadership skills. Students are elected to the council and have the responsibility of leading morning prayer, serving as role models, and planning and running pep rallies.
St. Augustine said, "He who sings prays twice." The SLDM choir sings at school Masses, special events, and the Christmas program. At Mass, the choir leads us in song and invites the entire congregation to raise their voices to God. All students in grades 3-8 are invited to join.
Students gather in school families throughout the year for special events, pep rallies, and prayer. Families include, as much as possible, a student from each grade led by an eighth grader. This helps build community and connects students of all ages and classrooms into one family.
Learning happens beyond the classroom! Classes go on field trips to learn science on nature hikes, see live musical and theatrical performances, learn about our area at historical sites, and much more. The sixth grade also attends Science Camp annually.
The yearbook is designed and published by the seventh grade class under the direction of a middle school teacher/advisor. Through the process, students learn about graphic design, photography, editing, and publishing skills.
