St. Louis de Montfort School was opened in September of 1964. The school was under the supervision of the pastor, Reverend Vincent McCabe and the daughters of Mary and Joseph. The first principal was Sister Mary Gemma, D.M.J. Sister Gemma, Ms. Irene Naretto, and Mrs. Mary Eiler opened grades one through three. They welcomed 112 students as the initial enrollment.
The original building space, presently grades one through eight, was first used as a temporary Church then as a hall for the growing parish. A classroom was added each year. In September of 1969 the school had eight classrooms filled with an enrollment of 317 students.
The kindergarten was added in 1982 and was housed in the Parish Hall until 1990. At that time a permanent modular was set in place near the school building. In 1998 a second modular was added to house the Computer Lab.
St. Louis de Montfort School serves the central coast area from Lompoc to Arroyo Grande. It is a feeder school for St. Joseph High School which is located 1 1/2 miles from St. Louis de Montfort. Nearly 100% of the Eighth Grade graduates attend St. Joseph High School.
The parish has been under the supervision of the Josephite Fathers since 1975. The Daughters of Mary and Joseph continue to serve the school. St. Louis de Montfort School provides a quality program through the active support of the Pastor, Parish, and families.
